The Local Government EV Fleet National Demonstration Project has secured $2.8 million from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. With added local match funds, this two-year $5 million national demonstration will showcase electric vehicles in government fleets. The project will deploy 90 electric vehicles (EVs) for use in a broad range of functions, plus necessary infrastructure. The project will encourage EV adoption through a regional visibility campaign and national best-practices outreach.
Benefits
Fleets provide an ideal way to demonstrate the benefits of EVs and government vehicle fleets account for the largest sector of fleets in the country, with state and local governments accounting for over 4.1 million cars and trucks alone. EVs provide lower total cost of ownership and emissions reductions. This EV fleet is projected to achieve over 540,000 lbs. of net CO2 avoidance. See EV benefits overview or the detailed EV business case.
